About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer with strong experience in hardware-near development, embedded Linux, Rust, and C/C++.
In this role, you will work across the embedded software stack, from hardware bring-up, platform integration, drivers and HAL development through to application software and device-level APIs/UI.
You will collaborate closely with hardware, FPGA, and systems engineering teams to develop and debug sophisticated embedded platforms.
Key ResponsibilitiesHardware Bring-Up & Platform Integration
Commission and integrate new hardware platforms.
Work with boot chains, peripherals, SoCs, MCUs, and FPGA-based platforms.
Support platform initialization and hardware/software integration.
Driver & HAL Development
Develop low-level interfaces for RF hardware, peripherals, measurement systems, and control components.
Develop and maintain software components using Rust and modern C/C++ (C++23).
Design and implement hardware abstraction layers and peripheral interfaces.
Embedded Application Software
Develop embedded applications on Linux-based platforms.
Work across the embedded software stack from low-level components through to application-level functionality.
Develop device APIs and, where applicable, device-level UI functionality.
FPGA / SoC / MCU Integration
Implement communication between embedded software and FPGA firmware.
Work with register maps, DMA, interrupts, and hardware communication interfaces.
Integrate and troubleshoot SoC/MCU peripherals and interfaces.
Hardware/Software Debugging
Analyse and resolve complex hardware/software integration issues.
Use laboratory and debugging equipment including:
Logic analysers
JTAG
Oscilloscopes
Other hardware debugging tools
Work closely with hardware development teams to identify and resolve faults.
Software Architecture & Development Practices
Design modular, maintainable, and scalable embedded software architectures.
Maintain reproducible builds and controlled dependency management.
Apply modern software engineering practices to safety- and quality-conscious embedded environments.
Use AI-assisted development tools productively and contribute best practices to the wider engineering team.
Mandatory RequirementsProgramming
Strong practical experience with Rust.
Strong practical experience with C/C++, ideally including C++23.
Several years of professional experience in embedded software development.
Embedded Systems
Approximately 5+ years of experience in embedded full-stack development.
Strong hardware-near development experience.
Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up.
Experience developing drivers and hardware abstraction layers (HALs).
Experience integrating peripherals and hardware components.
Embedded Linux
Strong experience working with embedded Linux.
Experience with Yocto and/or Buildroot is highly desirable.
FPGA / SoC / MCU
Practical experience working with FPGA, SoC, and/or MCU interfaces.
Understanding of:
Register maps
DMA
Interrupt handling
Hardware communication interfaces
Hardware Debugging
Confident use of laboratory and hardware debugging equipment.
Experience with logic analysers, JTAG, and oscilloscopes.
Software Engineering
Strong understanding of clean and modular software architecture.
Experience with reproducible builds.
Structured dependency and configuration management.
Languages
Very good German and English skills are required.
Team communication is predominantly in German, with some technical documentation in English.
Nice-to-Have QualificationsPython
Experience with Python for development tooling, test automation, or engineering utilities.
RF / HF Experience
Experience working with RF/HF products or systems.
Knowledge of areas such as:
RF signal paths
Calibration
Measurement systems
Signal processing interfaces
Testing & Laboratory
Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
Familiarity with laboratory operations and structured hardware/software test environments.
What You'll Be Working On
You will be involved in technically challenging embedded systems where software interacts directly with sophisticated hardware.
The role is particularly suited to an engineer who enjoys working close to the hardware, debugging complex systems in the lab, and moving between low-level firmware, embedded Linux, drivers, and higher-level embedded applications.
